The Shako PU220A Zero rated series 2/2 normally closed general purpose solenoid valve is a fail-safe closed power to open solenoid valve with a Brass Body, Stainless Steel internals and a choice of NBR, EPDM or FKM elastomer sealing.
With a clear focus to quality rather than cost which is clearly visible from the pictures below taken from our standard stock Model PU220 series solenoid valves. The PU220A-03 3/8", PU220A-04 1/2, PU220A-06 3/4 and PU220A-08 materials of construction combined with the choice of quality elastomer sealing materials makes this hung diaphragm assisted lift zero rated solenoid valve suitable for most non aggressive and non-corrosive gas and liquid media under 50 centistokes viscosity, such as compressed air, vacuum, mains water, drinking water, potable water, low pressure steam up to 150°C, diesel fuel, petrol, water glycol mixtures, liquid header tanks and gravity fed fluid systems, air pumps, air motors, pneumatic control systems, process water, inert gases, ethylene glycol, final effluent, propane, LPG (liquid petroleum gas), rapeseed oil, oxygen, hydrogen, nitrogen, carbon dioxide, argon and helium to name but a few. The PU220A brass solenoid valve bodies are cast from good quality die cast brass that has been imported from Europe and then CNC machined to very fine design tolerances to ensure smooth flow path, reliable sealing, high pressure stability and long working maintenance free life. All aspects PU220A solenoid valve which can be seen on the left hand side parts breakdown are based from quality of design and material. working from the top down, we have: Nickel plated locking nut Selflocking nickel plated spring washer Solenoid Class H IP65 CE 100% duty rated coil from Nass Magnet Germany, all voltages available from 12vAC-415vAC, 12vDC to 220vDC NBR self locating gasket and IP65 connector and screw New 1 pc armature Cast brass solenoid body cover Stainless steel fixing screws 430F stainless steel plunger Nylon reinforced diaphragm assembly available in NBR, FKM or EPDM Nylon body O ring Cast brass lower body. The PU220A solenoid valve nylon reinforced diaphragm is supported by a 304 stainless steel base plate and an additional elastomer support that completely protects the diaphragm from extruding into the valve sealing orifice face when being used at higher pressures and also aids the valve sealing for lower pressures and vacuum applications. The picture on the left hand side shows some key features and benefits of the Shako solenoid valve system. Plunger - high grade non rusting 430F magnetic stainless steel, offering better magnetic pull performance improving working pressure range and reduced coil heating. Additionally the plunger has also been chamfered on one edge to allow for better media flow during plunger movement which in turn reduces potential debris build up, speeds up operation, reduces coil heating and extends service life. Link spring - AISI302 sprung stainless steel connects the diaphragm mechanically to the armature that ensures positive opening without the need for pressure differential. The flexibility of the spring has been engineered exactly to allow quick and full movement of the armature into the holding position whilst either lifting the diaphragm or allowing the diaphragm to follow a few milliseconds after the pressures have balanced, which in turn prevents the coil staying in the inrush position for too long thus reducing coil heat and extending service life. Base plate - AISI304 stainless steel designed for the mechanical link between plunger and diaphragm but also provides the main pressure sealing support when the solenoid valve is closed. As the diaphragm seals over the sealing orifice the larger base plate takes the full load of the pressure bearing down behind it so the elastomer seal is simply being squashed between two metal surfaces. Without this support the elastomer diaphragm would have to hold back the pressure by itself and based on the principle A=∏r² even a small 13.0mm (0.51 inches) orifice gives a orifice surface area of 0.2046 In² even with only 5 bar (73.55 psi) pressure would be subjected to 15Lbs force (6.84 Kg) and a 1" solenoid valve with 25mm orifice under the same conditions 55 Lbs force (25.39 Kg) which shows how important this supporting back plate is. The base plate also has a raised lip which is designed to rest against the upper valve body when in the open position to prevent over loading against the plunger and over stretching of the diaphragm. The base plate also houses a pilot hole which is used under higher pressure conditions to pressure assisted the diaphragm and is located directly under the plunger. Diaphragm - is available in NBR, EPDM or FKM and are all nylon mesh impregnated which provide a lot of additional lateral strength to the diaphragm which greater increase cycle life and performance whilst maintaining the flexibility and elasticity for better sealing and movement. |

The PU220A solenoid valve core tube is now a 1 piece extruded (non welded) strong rust free AISI304 stainless steel armature tube. The original welded version could in certain circumstances could show signs of rust or corrosion at the weld points and even though many other manufacturers still continue to produce welded armature tubes Shako released the 2000 millennium upgraded 1 piece armature non-weld design offering better structural integrity higher working pressure range, better integral resist O Ring sealing between tube and valve body. This new design was so much better that the same tube assembly is used for the PU225X 50 bar model which is pressure tested to 75 bar. The design changes of the core tube (top part) meant less interference of the magnetic field and allowed for the reduction in diameter by 0.1mm of the plunger (bottom part) that rests inside. This allowed for better flow around the plunger during movement, reduced friction and wear, reduced clogging, reduced coil thermal build up and further extended solenoid valve and solenoid coil service life. Shako have developed the PU220A model 2-way brass solenoid valve to a very high level of quality and performance with an excellent choice of quality elastomer NBR, EPDM and FKM sealing. All Shako PU220A solenoid actuated 2/2 way valves are all 10 bar pressure , function and leak tested during the manufacturing process. |
The PU220A solenoid valve coils are imported from Nass Magnet in Germany, who are a very well known and respected world leading solenoid coil manufacturer offering total 100% reliability, European conformance and full certifications.
Shako install use two types of Class H DIN43650A CE certified 100% duty rated solenoid coil Nass Magnet System 13 coil as detailed below, which offer different working pressure ranges accordingly. The standard fitment is the Nass Magnet system 13/30 power level 4 coil, optional power level 5 system 13/36.
