Solenoid Valves

Vacuum Cross-Reference Guide.

One of the key criteria for selection of a solenoid valve is the pressure of the media to be controlled. Typical general purpose assisted lift solenoid valves can work with Vacuum up to about 10 Bar (147 psi), however these pressure parameters are dependent on the solenoid valve of choice, with other solenoid valves unable to cope under high vacuum applications. This can be additionally complicated when the measurement of vacuum is given in different formats and users can find themselves confused trying to convert from Torr to inches Mercury vacuum.

Below is a cross-reference guide to various measurements of vacuum to help users cross-reference different measurements from Torr, millimetres of Mercury, Pounds Per Square Inch, Inches Mercury Gauge, Atmospheres, Inches of Water, Kilograms per square centimetre, Kilo Pascals and Millibar.

Vacuum can also be measured as a percentage of absolute vacuum, for example a 50% vacuum would be 7.35 psi (absolute) i.e. half of 14.7 psi (no vacuum at all).

Here we have some helpful links to solenoid valves suited to vacuum applications.Helpful Hint: If you are unsure of the amount of vacuum in your application, there should be a vacuum pressure gauge somewhere in your system or check your vacuum pump label.

Helpful hint: remember that most general purpose solenoid valves will only control flow in one direction, we keep in mind that when installing a solenoid valve into a vacuum application that the outlet side is attached to the vacuum, so the flow is correct from inlet to outlet. This does not apply to coaxial valves or angle seat piston valves, which can control vacuum in either direction.

See our full range and buy valves suitable for low, medium and high vacuum applications here.
